The Wasl Tower in Dubai features one of the tallest ceramic facades globally, adorned with delicate ceramic elements. Clay was chosen for its aesthetic and practical benefits, with the facade's fins crafted from low-tech glazed ceramic. This intricate lattice not only shades the building but also channels daylight deep into its interior. The fins, set at a precise angle of 12.8 degrees, and their dimensions and material composition were optimized through parametric design data. The facade is further enhanced by dynamically generated light patterns that interact with the city's rhythm.
The residences in Dubai integrates smart technology for communication, security, and access, underpinning its commitment to sustainability. A notable design feature is the vertical boulevard, an open seam running the full height of the building. This seam, created by a series of outdoor balconies, forms a green stripe along the tower's profile and provides views into the interior. It connects indoor and outdoor spaces, offering a unique feature for the region. The building uses clean materials, adaptable lighting, and carefully designed acoustics to enhance visitor experiences, particularly in public areas where dining, hosting, and aesthetics are emphasized.
The Wasl Tower's design revolves around its Z axis and incorporates a classic 'contrapposto' movement, allowing it to engage with almost every direction. Its unified appearance is achieved through advanced parametric design and cutting-edge engineering. The mixed-use structure, which includes offices, guest rooms, public spaces, and apartments, posed challenges in core configuration.
